A Shiraz carpet is a type of Persian rug made area of the city of Shiraz. The designs are similar to Qashqai, Khamseh, Afshar, Abadeh and Luri designs. The weavers use fixed looms so the rugs tend to be large and quite coarse. Shiraz rugs don't usually have fine knots. Shiraz is in the south west region of Iran, sited close to the old Persian Persepolis. Shiraz rugs are woven by home weavers and taken into the main bazaar to be sold.
